From Immigrant to Advocate

Meet Attorney Jose A. Loayza

I am an immigration attorney with a deep personal connection to the work I do. Originally from Peru, I immigrated to the United States in 1989 to pursue my education and build a new life.

I earned my undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University in 1993, majoring in Philosophy and Zoology with a minor in Chemistry. I went on to complete my J.D. at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU in 1996.

Before coming to the U.S., I studied medicine at San Marcos and Cayetano Heredia medical schools in Lima, Peru, from 1983 to 1989.

In 2001, I opened my own practice—The Law Offices of Jose A. Loayza—in Salt Lake City, Utah. Since then, I’ve dedicated my career exclusively to immigration law. Every day, I help individuals and families navigate the complexities of the U.S. immigration system with care, skill, and unwavering commitment.

Earlier in my legal journey, I worked as a law clerk at The Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Firm in New York City (2000–2001) and as an associate attorney with Borland & Borland in Midland, Texas (1996–1999).

Community service is an important part of who I am. I served as the founding president of the Utah Latin-American Chamber of Commerce from 2006 to 2008 and founded the Peruvian Communitarian Movement in Lima in 2003.

Outside of work, I’m a husband and father to wonderful twin children. I enjoy playing soccer and have a deep interest in studying world religions.
